Welcome to my WIKI!!!

Math is my favorite subject!

I love to use math everyday and use strategies!

I love all the little sayings that help me remember different things in math!

7TH GRADE TIME!

Here is my Population Project I did with Grace:

Four Fours: (√= square root)(/ + division)

Can you make the numbers 1-10 using four fours?

Here are some examples:

8: 4 (4) - 4 - 4

9: (√4) (4) +4/4

10: (44 - 4)

          4

Algebraic Expression Work!

Vocab:

Term- A term is a number itself, and variable, or a number and a variable in an algebraic expression.

ex. 5 - (6x + 7n)

Variable- A variable is a symbol (ex. a letter) showing their is a number that is unknown.

ex. 10x + e

Constant- A constant is a number by itself.

ex. 9 + 5x / 78

Coefficient- A number that will be multiplied by a variable.

ex. 3x + 8 +7n

Algebraic Expression- An expression consisting of one or more variables

ex. 4x + 8 / (5n - 6)

Here is an algebraic expression I made showing the vocab words in action in the expression:

Variables: red, Constants: blue, Coefficients: green

                                  7x - 15 / (16n +18)

How to simplify an expression: (my definition)

To simplify an algebraic expression you have to combine like terms. For example if you had 3x + 6 + 4x, you add 3x and 4x first then do the rest of the map with the constants.

Here is my own simplified expression I made:

6n + 17 + 12n   →   18n + 17

The Life of Agnes Garden

by: Abigail Woodall

Agnes Garden was a garden spider who lived in a very beautiful world. She wanted to be like the other beautiful garden spiders, but she just felt like nobody paid any bit of attention to her. She wish she had the power to make people notice her. Whenever Agnes goes to the store to buy groceries people don’t help her when she asks. Even when she goes to checkout she has to go ask her neighbor Grasshoppina (who works at the market) to check her out. Grasshoppina is Agnes’s only real true friend. Agnes sometimes wishes she can substitute Grasshoppina’s life for hers. Grasshoppina has a wonderful family, she was two beautiful children. Grasshoppina has so many wonderful friends and a great huge family.
Now, Agnes has a job. Her job was at the bank like all the other spiders, but Agnes worked at her house. She worked at her house, because her boss said nobody would come to work with her at her desk. Her boss is not the friendly kind. His favorite term is “If you can’t get customers get out.” Agnes would have quit her job if she hadn’t worked for seven years. Agnes likes working at home, her home is very quiet and peaceful. Well, at least it is when Grasshoppina’s children are at school.
On a peaceful quiet raining day after Grasshoppina’s children left for school, Agnes started a day of work once again. After a complete hour and a half of hard work Agnes realized why she might not be noticed or have only one true friend. She is always locked inside her house with nobody to socialize with. Now, Agnes feels that her job is useless.
After a full week of thinking about her job and friends, Agnes decided to go talk to her boss and tell him she is going to move on. When Agnes showed up at the bank, her boss was shocked to see her come in after he told her not to come. Agnes then said “I am going to quit so I can move on in life, and I want a new job because you don’t seem to care about me, even though I have worked for you for seven years,” really fast. Her boss seemed puzzled for a second, then he said “You have worked for me for seven years?” and Agnes was very angry at this point. Then she decided she was going to just get to the point “I am just going to say it,” she was now getting sweaty, “I am going leave from your business,” then she just walked away.
When Agnes got home she felt so good that she finally simplified her boss from her life. She realized when she got home, that she has a different expression on her face. Her emotion wasn’t as gloomy or blank, she now had a slight grin.
Agnes decided that she should celebrate. She then distributed a invitation to Grasshoppina and her two children. The invitation stated “Come on over at 5:00! Maybe evaluate a new job for me? See you then!”
About an hour later, after Agnes decorated a party for her self, Grasshoppina and her two kids Tommy and Sally came to the party.
After everyone ate a small dinner, Agnes got anxious as Grasshoppina expanded the jobs she could have. Grasshoppina wasn’t only a very popular person, but she has been everywhere, therefore she knows many varieties of occupations. Agnes didn’t know what to choose!
She could be Mail Woman, but you would have to be efficient. Maybe a Pharmacist, but maybe her boss there might send her to her home base, because of the customers not coming to her. At this point Agnes was getting so confused and anxious everything started to spin from her perspective. She was getting dizzy, and dizzier,  and then Grasshoppina
poured ice cold water on Agnes. Agnes was not as dizzy, but she was cold and shocked that Grasshoppina poured water on her.
When Agnes warmed up a little and dried off, she looked over the jobs again. Then Agnes eyed the perfect job for herself. “Preschool Teacher, Pre Woodlawn”. Agnes decided that was the job she had always wanted deep down inside. The children in a Preschool class wouldn’t care what their teacher looked like at all.

Two months after Agnes Got her New Job

“Good morning class” Ms. Garden said to her student a new sunny morning of her wonderful job. All the students said “Good morning Ms. Garden!”. After Agnes told her students what the plan for the day was she found herself smiling. She thought “Great how my life went from dull to bright”

DO THIS!! IT WILL MAKE

YOUR BRAIN HURT!!!!!!!!

1. Think of a number

2. Multiply by 4

3. Add 14

4. Divide by 2

5. Subtract 7

6. Divide by two again

FAMILIAR?

RATIO AND RATE ASSIGNMENT:

RATIO:
1. A ratio compares two quantities where units are the SAME.
2.

The ratio between TRIANGLES and CIRCLES is 9:6, 9/6 or 9 to 6. Both of these numbers are divisible by 3, so you can simplify. The new simplified ratio will be 3:2, 3/2, or 3 to 2.

RATES:
1. A rate is a ratio that compares 2 quantities measured in different units.
A unit rate is a rate but the denominator is one when written as a fraction.
2.

This bag cost $8.00. I need to find what the price of ONE Dum Dum is.
First I put 8.00 and 200 into a fraction.
Then divide the numerator and denominator by 200, so the denominator is 1.
Now it is time for some LONG DIVISION!
Your product will end up as $0.04

8.00 200 =0.04
200  200 =  1

So, now I know each Dum Dum in the bag is worth $0.04!

HOW RATIOS AND RATES ARE DIFFERENT:
Ratios and rates are alike and not alike. The both compare two quantities, but a RATIO compares two quantities measured with units that are the SAME. A rate compares two quantities that are measured in different units.
