ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSIONS:

Term-A term is any part of the algebraic expression. Example: 4x

Variable- A variable takes the place of an unknown number. Example: x

Constant- A constant is a number by itself. Example: 4

Coefficient- A coefficient is a number that a variable is multiplied by. Example: the 4 in 4x

Algebraic Expression- An equation is a way to compare two things.  It says this is equal to that. Example: 4x-7y+n=13

4x-18z+72=14

pink is coefficients.

blue is variables.

purple is constants.

-3x+4y+x= -2x+4y

MY ANIMAL STORY:

The Cricket Spies At War

By Morgan Klein

CHAPTER 1

Once upon a time, there were two spy crickets named Hopper and Llama.  These crickets weren’t just regular spies; they were the best spies in all of the land.  The only bad thing was that they both worked for different bases.  Hopper worked for INC (innocent national corporation) and Llama worked for EGS (exponentially growing in society).  These two  bases are very similar in the missions they do, but are both run from opposing views. The only reason  these two crickets are in the spy business is because they have a special power. Hopper and Llama have the ability toevaluateconstant crimes and criminals.  The expression they use to define this power is Frelia.

CHAPTER 2

On July 15 Hopper was distributing coffee in the Break Room, and he got a superscript *from his boss Larry, the grasshopper.  Hopper was being called for the mostexpanded form of #123475869 mission he’d been working on for the past 3 months. Finally, Hopper thought now I can finally show that cricket who’s boss.

On that very same day, but in quite a different place, Llama got substituted in to a meeting about simplifying the problem with the INC, and taking down their lead Term, Hopper.  All of a sudden the room got very loud as bugs blurted out their ideas about how to figure out the issue.  Some ideas were to change certain words into a variable, to confuse the Frelia that Hopper would be trying to use.  Others wanted to have Bambi, a secret super coefficient spy, follow and help to confuse the INC’s Term.  Strangely though the suggestion they chose was made by Bambi himself.  They would send Bambi to be a Like Term that is Hopper’s helper only to lead him into a trap with Llama waiting.

CHAPTER 3
“Hello little cricket,” the butterfly at the reception desk in the INC said, “What can I help you with today?”  “Oh,” Bambi started, “I am here to apply for a job to be your lead’s assist.......”   “Okay,” Mara (the butterfly) interrupted, “All you need to do is fill out this questionaire, so that we know the truth about your background and make sure you are not trying to infiltrate the system we have running.”  The sheet had no legitimate questions that would have anything to do with the government.  Instead there were questions on scientific notation.  Bambi finished the problems, and  walked up to Mara, and handed in the sheet.  She only looked at it for a second before crumpling it and trashing it.  Bambi watched for a second thinking about what he could have done wrong, when she looked up smiling and said, “Hopper will now see you on level 7 in room A329.”
Hopper it turns out was not ready for a visitor, and was in fact flipping through a very secret-make sure no one reads it-important documet.  Bambi it also turns out wasn’t very good with manners and was never taught to knock before walking in.  So Bambi walked in and naturally Hopper jumped.  The very important document was in plain sight because of this.  Luckily though, Bambi was to busy concentrating on the whole look of the room.  Let’s just say it wasn’t exactly what Bambi expected.  It looked like a crazed person from one of those adventure movies had come in and tried to figure out a very complicated algebraic equation on the walls.  Sadly to have failed over and over.  “Ummm, can I help you?” Hopper asked.  “Oh I am here to be interviewed for a job as your assistant.  Where should I go?” Bambi answered.  “Just sit over there, what did you say your name was again?” questioned Hopper.  “Okay, and I didn’t say.  It’s Bambi.” They both walked over to the old couch and sat down.  Well, Bambi sat.
CHAPTER 4
Llama paced back and forth in the halls of the EGS waiting for a subscricpt. (*A superscript is a message from someone in a position higher than you, and a subscript is from someone the same or lower.)  I would tell you who it was going to be from, but then you wouldn’t have a need to read the rest of the story.  Anyways, she couldn’t tell if she was furious, upset, or worried.  He was supposed †o send me a subscript hours ago what has happened? Has the victim figured out the secret?  Llama’s thoughts were all jumbled and confusing but she somehow managed to keep a straight face.  He must be okay.  He most likely........ UNLESS!  What if her fear had come true?  What if the victim had built up enough Frelia to overcome them? No, no, no, no, no, no. It can’t happ................................. “Zzzzzzzzz.”  She fell asleep with a crazed mind.
CHAPTER 5
“Bambi.  Bambi, Bambi, Bambi.  I always knew this day would come, and now that it has, you don’t have the support crew you need to escape from my office.”  Hopper evily said.  “I may not have the support crew I need,  but I am still the best spy.”  Bambi said with confidence.  Now thought Bambi,  I only need a way to call Llama to my rescue.  Too bad he took my gear.  The Frelia had gotten so strong in Hopper that he was now able to read minds.  Naturally, he was using this newfound power on his victim.  So naturally he would point out what Bambi didn’t know.  “You probably think you have llama on your side.  But it would do you good to think again.  Me and Llama have been collaborating all this time on how to catch you so we could harness your Frelia and use it for our own good.”  POW! BOOM! The door flew open.  Where it used to stand was a cricket.  Not just any cricket.  There stood Llama.  “Bambi, I’m here for you.”  That was all he needed. Kick, Slap, Punch.  Bambi hopped to his feet and jumped out of the room.  Hopper dashed after them but was lost in a sea of scattering bugs running to the exit, as the alarm had told them to do.  The door was reached first by Llama and Bambi, who slowed there pace and took cover.  Hopper came popping out just as the building exploded, and the bugs inside were never seen again.  The three took a deep breath, and walked away.  Their minds filling with thoughts of their past evil bases and deceived coworkers.
EPILOGUE
The three crickets in this story are now living happily being spies for themselves instead of evil government establishments.  They still carry out missions for Mr. Barack Omantis.  All while currently being stationed in Woodlawn School in Davidson, NC gardens.

The End

I like the "find x" one,
x=5
using a^2+b^2=c^2

Your example, Example: 4x-7y+n=13 is an equation, not an expression. An algebraic expression does not have an equals sign.
