ANIMAL PROJECT

 Ants are one of the world’s smartest animals. They have all kinds of knowledge about everything in the world. These ants know science, S.S, L.A, and can even speak spanish, but their favorite is math!!
 The ants favorite part of math is exponents. They like exponents because they consider themselves the superscript because they are small and us humans the base because we are a lot bigger than them. Sometimes they even have nightmares about us.
 These ants are really lazy at math especially when it comes to expanded form. They really don’t like it because it because you have to write out the whole thing. The ants much prefer scientific notation because it is a shorter version of a number. They also really can’t stand unsimplified fractions. If they aren’t simplified they’ll do it for you.
 Their second favorite math subject is totally algebra. They know how to define the terms in all expressions. These ants would much rather do that than solve equations though because they’re easier to evaluate, these ants want a challenge.
 Ants truly are the smartest animals in the world. They know all subjects but remember, their favorite is always math!!!

This is how I spend my time. I spend most of my time sleeping, this is surprising because I am  always so tired. I spend the least amount of my time brushing my teeth, although I do brush for six minutes at a time. #braceface

 
This is a scatterplot. It shows that the hand length and foot length of the sixth grade is correlated. That means the it is related. They have a positive correlation because the dots are going an an upwards direction.

 

Most people like to study online. Online games can be fun, but I like to use old-fashioned flashcards. There is just about an even amount between not studying and using flashcards. More people need to study!

POPULATION PROJECT

Country: Japan

 

Big Question: Why does Japan’s life expectancy suddenly drop in 1940?

 

Hypothesis: WWII

 

Findings: 

The fourth year of the Japanese war against China was going on in 1940. It is also called, by the Chinese, “China Incident”.  There are no signs of end in sight. The U.S. and Great Britain have been helping the Chinese, while threatening Tokyo’s economy. Japan was angry about this and tired of fighting, so they decided to bomb Pearl Harbor(though they also did this for resources). The U.S. decided to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki with an atomic bomb for revenge and to end WWII.

 

 

Conclusions: 

The “China Incident”, the atomic bombs, and all these other things caused Japan’s life expectancy to drop in the 1940s. With all the bombs and other war tragedies, the life expectancy just dropped rapidly.

Have it Your Way: Menu Project

Intro:

 

I will create this menu for Joe. Joe weighs 127 lbs. In this example, he will be walking off a spicy chicken sandwich from Chick-Fil-A. This is his current favorite lunch. This spicy sandwich is 490 calories.

 

Calculations:

 

calories burned (per minute) walking x weight = J

 

   

 

                                             0.019 x       127 =  2.28

 

   490  = 214.91                          calories = minutes

 

   2.28                                           J  

 

Conclusion:

 

In conclusion Joe will have to walk 214.91 minutes to burn off all the calories from eating a spicy chicken sandwich from chick-fil-a. This is about 3 hours of walking. That is a LOT of walking.

Reflection:

 

I liked this project because you got to do math as you were learning about nutrition. This was a fun project because you got to pick how to answer the question; really let your creative juices flow. Something I didn’t like about this project is that… I have nothing bad about it to say about it.

ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSIONS

DEFINITIONS: 

 

Term: a number, a variable, of a number times a variable

 

Variable: an unknown number, usually expressed as a letter

 

Constant: a number

 

Coefficient: a number before a variable (multiply)

Algebraic Expression: all of the things above combined

 

SIMPLIFYING ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSIONS:

 

To simplify an algebraic expression, you must add all the like terms. If you have a term with k and then another term with k, you must add them together. Once you have done that you add/subtract or do what you need to do with the numbers. FInally, you put the two answers together.

7p + 2 -4p= 3p+ 2
