Welcome to my amazing Math Wiki Page!!!! Math is my favorite subject in school. I love math because of the moment when you find the answer to a problem and you go "OOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" My favorite thing to do in math is order of operations, because it has a little bit of everything. Enjoy!
15 The Great Slug War Jack Hager
A long time ago, way before us, powerful slugs roamed the Earth. It was a violent and desperate time, as there was a bloody war that was getting exponentially worse. The government of Slug World was getting worried. “All of Slug world used to live perfectly in harmony- why is everyone all of the sudden going against each other and breaking into sides?” wondered Sir Slimer, the king of Slug World. “We must evaluate the situation”, concurred Madam Mucus, the queen of Slug World. The great Slug War had been going on constantly- their hadn’t been peace for a whole 2 years!!!!!!!!! It was a very dire time in Slug World’s history, and the government needed a solution for the extreme situation at hand. Meanwhile.................
“TAKE COVER!!!!!!!!!!!” screamed Commander Slimster. While the government was discussing how to end the war, the Warriors and the Fighters were waging battle. The Warriors were attempting to take over the Fighter’s base.Lieutenant Slider, Commander Slimster’s right hand man, was trying to convince Slimster that they needed to simplify their solution. “We have too many men trying to flank their army! They outnumber us- it’ll never work!!! We need to get air support!” screamed Slider. “NO! I am the commander of this operation, and I say we need to distribute support helicopter’s to bring us more men!!! Goodness, Slider, sometimes i wish I could substitute another lieutenant for you........HIT THE DIRT!!!!!!!!!!!”screamed Slimster as a rocket neared their position . “What does “hit the dirt” mean???? yelled Slider, “IT’S AN EXPRESSION!!!! JUST DO IT!!!!!!!!” screamed Slimster. After the explosion nearly killed Slider and Slimster, Slider got a message from his walkie talkie. “Slider, come in. This is urgent! We just intercepted a message from the Fighters through our undercover spy- they have sent a nuclear bomb in your area, and after doing a quick equation, we calculated that it will hit in 5 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!”

Vocabulary!!!!!!!
Power- How many times a number is multiplied by itself.
Exponent- Repeated multiplication.
Evaluate- Find the value.
Constant- A number on its own. It never changes.
Base- The number that is going to be multiplied by the exponent.
Simplify- To reduce the number of terms in a math problem.
Distribute- Were to put things in an equation.
Substitute- To change the variable to a number.
Expression- Consists of 1 or more variables.

Here's A Scatter Plot!!!!!
This scatter plot shows the relationship between our classes height and our classes Arm Span. (Arm span is on the the side. Sorry I couldn't label it.)

Here's a link to a cool website that we saw in Math Club. This guy is doing one design for numbers 1-365 every day. See if you can pick out the number in each one.

Here is some work we did on Algebraic Expressions in class:
Term- A term is either a single number, a variable, or numbers and variables multiplied together.
Ex.) In 4x-7, 4,x,and 7 would be the terms.
Variable- A symbol we use for a number we don’t have yet.
Ex.) In 4x-7, x would be the variable
Constant- A number that doesn’t change.
Ex.) In 4x-7, 7 would be the constant.
Coefficient- The number you multiply the variable by.
Ex.) In 4x-7, 4 would be the coefficient.
Algebraic Expression- A problem or expression comprised of any number of constants,
coefficients, terms, and variables.
Ex.) 4x-7
An example of an Algebraic Expression:
Variables=blue, Constants=green, Coefficients=pink
4x+2y-8
Here is a link to a helpful Khan Academy set:
Khan Academy set listed here http://www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-seventh-grade-math/cc-7th-variables-expressions/cc-7th-manipulating-expressions/e/combining_like_terms_1
To simplify an expression, you must combine the like terms. Here is an example:
k+3k=4k
It is 4k because you combined the 3k and the 1k to get 4k.
5. Here is an example of a simplified expression:
5y+3y+3k+2k-5=8y+5k-5
