1.  Google Docs:

These are not chat rooms.  The chat boxes should be used only for on-topic questions and answers.  Other than introducing yourself, there should be no random chatting.  Anyone that uses the chat box for anything other than math topics will lose their online privileges for the day.  

2.  Email:

You may check your email without permission in my class when you need to get a link or materials for my class.  When you are on your email, only check the mails the relate to our class.

3.  Classroom Wiki Expectations*

Collaboration is a very important part of our society.  Students in this class are expected to work together in order to reach our goals.  In order to accomplish this, there are certain rules that we should keep in mind. 

• Be safe: Keep personal information to a minimum.  Don't post things like your age, birthday, address, phone number, gender.  This information should  be kept off the internet.

• Be Accurate: The benefit of a wiki is that people can use this as a resource. Your job is to verify any information you add to the wiki. 

• Be Respectful: Do not delete or edit any one else's entries.  This includes content, comments and pages. They are working as hard as you are to create a useful product.  You may comment on each other's work as this will be helpful in improving the final product.  Make sure that the comments are useful and respectful.  Be considerate. Keep in mind...comments are good, but questions are better.

• This is not a chat room: No waz up?, heeeellooooo, lol, rofl, bff or ttfn.  Use academic language.  This is an educational site and you want to come across as an educated person.

• No random pictures: This is a math page so please put any math related pictures or material that you find interesting on your page.  But no pictures of your dog, etc...

4.  Never Steal a Lock!*

Given the collaborative nature of a wiki we want to establish some "ground rules" concerning Stealing Locks when editing pages.  Stealing Locks can lock up a students computer and wipe out all changes they have done to the wiki page.  Please be considerate of others.

• If you attempt to edit a page & the textbox notifies you that the page is being actively edited by another member of the wiki community then take a 5 minute break to allow that person to complete their editing tasks.

• Never steal a lock unless the wiki "tells" me that the page has not been edited for 5 minutes. Never steal a lock when someone is actively editing.  Always ask that person to please save so that you may edit. 

• Please save your page frequently if it is one that others are likely to edit.  Save and Continue will allow you to save and continue to edit the page.

5.  Comment

Leave a comment to show me that you have read the Wiki rules.  This comment should say

"I have read, understand, and agree to abide by the wiki rules."
