Answer these questions in the comment section on this page AFTER you finish the Waterlogged page.

  1. Read this page
  2. Go to the links at the bottom (not the videos).  Everyone read Water Crisis Overview, Water Statistics, and Water Study.
  3. Then, click on your assigned link and read your website
  4. In the comment section of this page, write about two things.  Write about
    1. ONE thing that you learned (that you did not know) in either the Water Crisis Overview, Water Statistics, or Water Study
    2. ONE thing that you learn in the article that you read in your assigned link.
  5. If you do not finish today, finish for homework.

Beyond the clear impact of inadequate water and sanitation on child health, the daily struggle to find clean water is itself a major obstacle to development, according to UNICEF Chief of Water, Environment and Sanitation Vanessa Tobin.

“It’s the impact of the time that it takes for young women and young girls to carry water – sometimes up to two hours in the morning or up to two hours in the evening – as a result of the fact that any water supply is so far from their community,” she said.

In Water Statistics, I learned that approximately 443 million school days are missed due to water illness. That is a lot of school days! Because of insufficient water, people might be losing chances to learn because of water deprivation. If we could stop this water problem, then people would become smarter and the world would be a better place.

In, "Sanitation, Water, and Health," i learned that we need 20-50 liters of water each day. I didnt realize that we needed that much water!

On water statistics, I learned that women who carry water each day are likely to be anemic, or have back problems. I learned from "Water Facts" that 70% of available water in the world is used for irrigation!

If the world keeps on growing at the rate it is, then the world mat not be able to sustain the human species. 4,000 children die each day because of water-lacking related diseases.
People have to melt snow in Antarctica to get fresh water when on expeditions. I learned this from water fact- where is water.

I learned from the Crisis Overview that 80 countries have water shortage and two billion people have a lack of access to clean water. Now, 884 people have lack of water. According to the Water Statistics, on out of every two people lack clean water. I had number 2 and I learned that 884 people have lack of access.

I did not know that the people without water decreased from 884 million from 1.1 billion in 2006. I also learned that 2.5% of our Earth's water is fresh water. Only 2.5% of water us enough for the giant population??

In water statistics, I learned that one in eight people lack safe drinking water. In Sanitation, Water, and Health, I learned that we needed 20- 50 liters per day! I didn't know that we needed that much water!

In Water Statistics, I learned that one in eight people worldwide lack safe water. In #5 (Why Water), I learned that 90% of deaths from bad water occur in children under 5 years old. One in eight people is so many people! And children under 5 are so young. It is really sad. We are so selfish with water in America, and it is really depressing.

I also did not know that the water and sanitation crisis claims more lives through disease than any war claims through guns. That really scares me because I do not like war.

I learned from this reading that skeletons get deformed in people from carrying water. I also learned that 16.000 people in South Africa die per year of diharrea.
