My New Car - 6th

You are going to find and build two cars that you would like to buy, a realistic car and a dream car.  Then, you are going to add the sales tax calculate the amount of interest that you would have to pay if you took out a 4-year car loan.  This will tell you how much your car is really going to cost.  Then you will calculate your monthly payments.  Start saving now!  ☺

Find the Cost of Your Cars:

1. Pick out a realistic car (under $20,000) and a DREAM car.

There is a list of car websites at the bottom of this page.

New Car

2. Find the websites for the car that you would like.  Be sure that you are on the manufacturer's website, not a resaler.

3. Most car websites have a "Build it" page where you can pick out everything you want on the car (including the color and all the "extras").  The website then prices it for you.  Please search for the "Build It" page on your car's website to get accurate pricing.

Used Car

4. Edmonds.com is a great place to find pricing for a used car.

5. Save a picture of both cars to your computer.  You may need to do a screen shot.

Find the Sales Tax and Interest Rate: Links on wiki.

1. Find the sales tax rate for the county that you live in.

2. Find the interest Rates you will need.  Interest Rates

     4-year NEW car loan rate.

     4-year USED car loan rate.

Find the Total Car Cost and Monthly Payments.

Use the worksheet to calculate these car costs.

Calculate the Interest by using the formula I =prt .  Don't forget to change the percent to a decimal!!  (ie - 6% = 0.06)

Math Wiki Page:

Add your car pictures and math facts to your math wiki page!

  1. Go to YOUR WIKI page on the MathReuls Wiki
  2. Upload a picture of your car to your page.  If you are not able to copy the photo from the build page then try taking a screen shot.
  3. Add your car information (make, model, price) next to your car on your wiki page.
  4. Add your math calculations as well.

If your desired car is not on this list, please add it to the table at the bottom.

Also, when you go to your car site, please find the "Build It" page.  This is where you can price out a car.
